Crystal Crisis is an interesting case for a Switch game For one, when it was announced, Capcom started to pull the plug on their mobile reboot of Puzzle Fighter However, Even though it got hype because it felt like Puzzle Fighter more so then the failed mobile reboot [ironic i know] - Nicalis for a year and 4 months was dead silent about it They delayed it twice and finally here we are, Is the game any good after all the head desk worthy wait? Let's find out, shall we?
Crystal Crisis does live up to the hype as it plays like (if not better than) Puzzle Fighter The gameplay might be familiar to those that played Super Puzzle Fighter II or the failed mobile reboot (Puzzle Fighter) but it does have differences in gameplay to stand out What also makes Crystal Crisis unique is it's character roster - i mean the show stopper in the line-up is Johnny Turbo, yes.. THE Johnny Turbo (voiced by the real Johnny Turbo himself, Jonathan Brandstetter) The soundtrack is also top notch and what drags you is not only the once voice of Toonami/the immortal voice of Optimus Prime himself, Peter Cullen but the kick-ass theme song "Red Fire"
As it stands, The game (mainly on the Switch version) has its faults One of the problems on the Switch version is the load times as it does drag as tad longer compared to it's releases on both PC and PS4 [of which it could be ironed out down the road given if Nicalis is willing to fix it] Online community as i'm typing this is rally lackluster, then again what did you expect when game got delayed as long as it did? Difficulty can be troublesome for some gamers In portable mode, It's pretty much gonna be taking a toll on battery life (so bring a battery bank and/or spare AC adapter just in case) And one other problem is the story mode, While it does have branching paths - all in all, It's a wee too short
Despite it's drawbacks, Crystal Crisis is a really addictive game to buy
and while the price difference between the eShop and physical releases is a wee daunting, rest assured - Crystal Crisis is definitely a must buy Score: 9.8
