[Note to Joshua: Please forgive me but i must go off topic (Nintendo only) for this subject to make a point] Importing, a thing that millennials are too cheap and/or scared to do With the switch being the first truly region free Nintendo console (that doesn't require any workarounds physical or digital to play imported games), It should be a good time to start importing Importing has its benefits
1. Video Games As stated, the Switch is region free - even the eShop is region free To give ya the rundown, Here's a reliable link to give you the tips and the sites to get income for the respected regional eShops: https://tiredoldhack.com/2017/04/14/how-to-buy-switch-eshop-games-from-different-regions/ Now, While games like Taiko no Tatsujin (one thought to be stuck in Japan) are coming to the west for the Switch - There are actual games that will likely not come at all to the West even though there will be an english patch ready (mainly for the SE Asian crowd but accessible for the JPN release) to use for physical Japanese games, I recommend either https://www.play-asia.com and/or http://www.yesasia.com Both are trustworthy tho Play-Asia relies on PayPal (which is a hassle on it's own right) Examples of YCPT (You Can Play This) Switch imports

2. Other Media Now here is where i must go off-topic as Importing has more to offer apart of more options for Switch owners (again, Joshua - I must go OT just for this topic... hope you understand as i'm REALLY passionate about this topic) For this i mean, Multimedia like home media and streaming What do i mean by this? Simple, Suppose there's a show you're interested in seeing but it's not available anywhere in the US Sure, you COULD go to KimCartoon but it's currently going through a whack a mole session and some variants esp. the clones of KissCartoon aren't all compatible with all HTML5 (example: Wii U Internet Browser) Now take a quality kid show like Bluey for example
Chances are this cartoon (despite it's great quality) will never see US broadcast or SVOD due to the US's constant portrayal of the father figure as a borderline bumbling idiotic clueless loser This is where VPNs come in - sure some are a sorta costly but you could try TunnelBear for a start (as it's free) with a VPN you can watch content unavailable in the US on services like BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, My 5 and Family Jr ro name a few Now regarding Home Media, This is where the fun starts To start your importing treasure hunt, get a quality region-free Blu-Ray/DVD player [of which most are affordable] Where you can watch DVD from Australia, UK/EU and Japan DVDs from UK/EU and Australia require hunting on eBay or check Amazon US for imports Japanese DVDs can be found on either Play-Asia, YesAsia and/or CDJapan (all ship to the USA) There a ton of gems to import on physical media like Super Gran, Asterix (all of it's films), Rastamouse, Little Charo, Usavich, The Animals of Farthing Wood, The Wind in the Willows (The Cosgrove-Hall Series) [UK/EU has the complete series on DVD while the US only got a fraction of it via A&E], Mouk, The Adventures of Rupert Bear (yes, the ITC puppet series), Pipkins and many others Now it's true that some imported DVDs and/or Blu-rays cost a hefty penny either if it's rare or relatively new but i assure you that experience from the content alone is the best reward you'll receive from this endeavor All it takes is risk and an open mind Trust me mates, It's REALLY worth it!
