To readers raring to wield their pitchforks and torches: Please understand this is coming from someone that dived into Portia expecting it to be just as lax and pleasant as Stardew Valley When this game did it's Kickstarter campaign it promised it'll be Stardew Valley meets Breath of the Wild, I was hyped for it's Switch release and when i got the money to buy it on my birthday and bought it and the "Housewarming Pack" DLC and from the start, I had one hell of a wake up call
While Stardew Valley leaves you to clean up your farm and then go fish, talk with ppl and whatnot the day later... Portia is NOTHING like Stardew Valley How you might be asking Well let's see.... Instead of leaving you to live your life, they force you to do endless fetch and craft quests and also you have to craft machines to make materials for these requested items like a bridge BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! While in Stardew Valley you can mind 'till your heart's content (for free), in "My Time in Portia" you have to pay to RENT a mine but the pain doesn't end here folks! You have to deal with one thing you don't wish to deal with in "timesink games" like this, CAMERA CONTROLS!
Yes, remember when they said it's Stardew Valley meets Breath of the Wild? It fails to be both The camera controls will make you lose your mind.. especially when you enter the mine you rented, The camera controls will make you get lost in that mine and trust me.. that's a bad thing Not to mention the camera controls make roaming around Portia a very frustrating endeavor but wait the frustration doesn't end there as Portia has fighting too and Hoo Boy! The fighting mechanics are a joke as the townsfolk and a gang of miners you're suppose to kick their ass to join are pretty OP which in turn forces you to grind the fuck outta your character... in a time sink game where you suppose to craft and fucking farm crops If you enjoyed Stardew Valley, Please avoid My Time at Portia - and trust me getting the Housewarming DLC isn't worth it either There are better games that are akin to Stardew Valley like the recently released "Doraemon Story of Seasons" as well as Farm Together and the upcoming Stranded Sails: Explorers of the Cursed Islands (due to launch on October 17th)
